About medical-grade peels
A peel works by loosening the bonds between tired surface skin cells so they shed more readily, prompting fresher skin to come through and stimulating the skin's own renewal underneath. The result, over a course of treatments, is brighter, smoother, more even-toned skin — and a noticeable improvement in pigmentation, congestion, and fine surface lines.
These are not the off-the-shelf peels you'll find at a pharmacy. They are clinical-strength formulations that require professional application and a proper skin assessment first. Used correctly, peels are one of the most effective and cost-efficient ways to improve overall skin tone, texture and radiance.
Lorraine's range of peels
Different skins — and different concerns — need different chemistry. Lorraine selects from a range of peel types, including her own professional L Skin Solutions by Lorraine formulations:
- Glycolic acid — the classic brightening and resurfacing peel, excellent for dullness, uneven tone, sun damage and fine lines. Lorraine's L Skin Solutions Glycolic Gel is a 10% glycolic acid peel with hydrating peptides.
- Salicylic acid — oil-soluble, so it works inside congested pores. Ideal for acne-prone, oily and congested skin.
- Lactic acid — a gentler, hydrating acid suited to sensitive or reactive skin and first-time peel clients.
- Enzyme peels — the gentlest option, using fruit or other natural enzymes for a no-downtime exfoliation and glow, such as Lorraine's Blue Tidal Enzyme Peel.
What peels treat
Peels are one of the most versatile skin treatments Lorraine offers. They help with sun damage and uneven pigmentation, dull or tired-looking skin, congested and acne-prone skin (salicylic especially), fine lines around the eyes and mouth, and as a pre-event radiance boost a week or two before a wedding or occasion. They also work beautifully as ongoing maintenance for clients who want consistently smooth, bright skin.
Downtime and what to expect
How much your skin visibly flakes depends entirely on the peel strength. Light enzyme peels typically have no visible downtime — you leave glowing. Medium-depth glycolic or salicylic peels often produce 3–5 days of light surface flaking, similar to mild sunburn peeling, as the treated layer sheds. Lorraine chooses the depth based on your skin and your schedule, so a peel can be tailored around an event or kept gentle if you can't have downtime.
A note on darker skin tones
Peels can be excellent for richer and darker skin tones, but the chemistry and depth must be chosen carefully to avoid triggering post-inflammatory pigmentation. This is exactly why a proper in-person skin assessment comes first — Lorraine matches the peel to your skin, never the other way around.
What to expect
-
Skin assessment and consultation
Lorraine assesses your skin in good light, talks through your concerns and goals, and recommends the right peel chemistry and depth for your skin type. If your skin needs prepping with home actives first, she'll tell you. Pricing for your plan is confirmed here.
-
Preparation
On the day, the skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped. For deeper peels, the skin may have been primed with specific home products in the weeks beforehand to get the best, most even result.
-
The peel (45–60 minutes)
The peel solution is applied in controlled layers and left on for a precise time, monitored throughout. You may feel a mild tingling or warmth — this is normal and managed carefully. Gentler enzyme peels feel like little more than a warm mask.
-
Neutralise and finish
The peel is neutralised or removed at the right moment, and the skin is soothed and protected with calming, hydrating finishing products and SPF. You leave with clear written aftercare.
-
Healing and flaking
Over the next few days, depending on peel strength, you may experience light surface flaking. Don't pick or exfoliate — let it shed naturally. Keep the skin hydrated and protected, and avoid direct sun. Daily SPF is essential.

A series for best results
A single peel brightens, but a series of treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart produces the most significant change in tone and texture. Each session is booked and paid on its own — there's no package to commit to, and Lorraine will map out a sensible rhythm at consultation.
