What are 3D Feather Brows?
3D Feather Brows — also known as microblading, hair-stroke brows, semi-permanent eyebrows or simply eyebrow tattoo — is a semi-permanent eyebrow technique that mimics real brow hair. Using a fine, hand-tooled instrument, Lorraine draws individual strokes through the brow line, layering pigment in the direction your natural hair grows. The result is fuller eyebrows that look like natural brows, not makeup.
This is Lorraine's signature treatment and her most-requested semi-permanent makeup service. Done well, no one should be able to tell where your natural brow ends and the work begins — and that's the point.
Who is 3D Feather Brows for?
The right candidate for feather brows falls into a few clear groups:
- Thin or sparse brows — whether by genetics, ageing, or years of over-plucking, fine strokes can restore density without looking drawn-on. This is the most common reason people ask about eyebrow tattoo: brows for thin eyebrows that look genuinely natural, not painted on.
- Uneven or asymmetrical brows — one side higher, shorter, or thinner than the other. Carefully mapped stroke placement is one of the cleanest ways to fix uneven eyebrows without resorting to daily pencil work.
- Brows lost to chemo, alopecia, or trichotillomania — for full hair-loss cases Lorraine typically recommends her dedicated alopecia brow recreation, but feather strokes can also rebuild brows that have thinned significantly.
- Mature brows that have lost shape and pigment — softly defined feather strokes give a refreshed, never-harsh result that suits ageing skin. This is a popular anti-ageing treatment for clients who don't want to think about brows anymore.
- Anyone who wants fuller eyebrows without effort — no more pencilling, no more powders smudging by midday, no more compromise on holiday or at the beach. You wake up with your brows already done.
What makes Lorraine's feather brows different
Lorraine runs a dedicated aesthetic clinic in Runaway Bay, Gold Coast, and brings 20 years in the cosmetic industry — with over a decade specialising in semi-permanent makeup specifically. She trained extensively with leading international educators in Milan, London and Paris, and her approach to feather brows is built on three principles:
The most beautiful brows don't look done — they look like the brows you should have had all along.
- Shape is mapped, not assumed. Before a single stroke is placed, your brow shape is carefully measured, drawn and reviewed with you in the mirror. Symmetry, your natural arch, the way your brow frames your eye — all designed first.
- Colour is mixed bespoke to you. Pigment is custom-blended to suit your hair colour, your skin undertone, and the way the colour will heal in your skin specifically. No off-the-shelf tones.
- Strokes follow your natural growth. Each fine line is placed by hand in the direction your own hair grows. This is what creates the illusion of real hair rather than a flat tattoo line — and it's where 20 years of practice in the cosmetic industry shows.
What to expect
-
Consultation
Complimentary, either in-clinic or via the contact form. We discuss your goals, your brow history, any health considerations, and the look you're hoping for — bring reference photos if you have them. If you're a strong candidate, we book your treatment and reserve your follow-up session 6–8 weeks later.
-
Mapping and design
On the day, your brows are carefully measured to your facial proportions and pre-drawn in pencil so you can see the proposed shape before any pigment is placed. Nothing is permanent until you've approved the design in the mirror.
-
Colour-matching
Pigment is mixed bespoke to your hair colour, undertone and the way colour heals on your skin. Lorraine errs lighter rather than darker — depth can be added at your follow-up, but lifting overly dark pigment is far harder.
-
Numbing
A medical-grade topical anaesthetic is applied and given time to work. Most clients describe the sensation during treatment as a light scratching or tickling rather than pain. A buffer of numbing is reapplied during the session as needed.
-
Treatment
Fine hair-strokes are placed by hand, one at a time, following the direction of your natural brow growth. The session takes 2–2.5 hours including mapping, design and colour development. We pause regularly to check stroke density against your design.
-
Healing
Brows appear darker and slightly bolder for 3–5 days, then begin to flake and lighten over the following week. Around days 10–14 they may look unexpectedly faint — this is the normal "ghost phase" as new skin grows over the pigment. By weeks 4–6 the true colour blooms back through.
-
Follow-up session
A paid follow-up at 6–8 weeks lets us fine-tune the colour intensity, address any spots that need a second pass, and perfect the shape now that healing is settled. This session is priced separately and discussed at your consultation.
